Jalkanen & Keski-Pomppu

Finland

At COLLECTIBLE 2024, Jalkanen & Keski-Pomppu unveil their latest creation, the SOIL series of lights, highlighting the beauty of local materials. Handcrafted from Finnish red clay sourced from Päivi Keski-Pomppu's childhood village, each light takes on an organic form, shaped with care in their own workspace. Collaborating with local glassblowers from Kiikoinen and Riihimäki, the glass components add a unique touch to the design. The juxtaposition of industrial steel, warm red clay, and delicately shaped glass sparks a captivating dialogue of materials, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the rich narrative woven into each object.

Jalkanen & Keski-Pomppu, a dynamic design duo based in Helsinki, seamlessly blend art, design, and architecture in their creative pursuits, spanning objects, sculpture, furniture, and interior design. Emphasizing hands-on craftsmanship, they believe in the transformative power of tactile engagement, striving for both aesthetic excellence and sustainability in their work. While rooted in tradition, they actively explore innovative approaches to design and materials, seeking to birth fresh perspectives and solutions. Piia Jalkanen, a designer and interior architect, specializes in projects utilizing ceramic and wood, having graduated from Aalto University in 2023. Päivi Keski-Pomppu, a jewelry artist and designer, balances design projects with her own jewelry line, pursuing a master's degree at Aalto University.
