Hyungjun Lee

South Korea

At COLLECTIBLE New York, Hyungjun Lee will present Wood stack_Side table_01, a piece crafted from stainless steel that draws on the cultural significance of stone stacking in Korean traditions. Inspired by the 'seonangdang' or 'seonghwangdang'—stone towers found in mountainous regions and associated with shamanistic practices—the side table symbolizes a connection to guardian spirits and nature. Lee’s interpretation transforms this concept into a modern sculpture, using stainless steel to evoke the stacking of stones and reflect a reverence for nature and its spiritual dimensions. This artwork merges traditional symbolism with contemporary art, exploring the relationship between materiality, nature, and spiritual values.
