Hemmo Honkonen (b. 1990) is a designer/maker based in Helsinki, Finland. With a background in interior architecture, furniture design and luthiery, he combines his educational backgrounds creating interactive furniture pieces incorporating acoustic sound and mechanical movement. In his work Honkonen strives to create functional furniture pieces with a sculptural dimension, blending the border between mundane everyday objects and sculpture.
Audible furniture is a series of furniture with sound, a study in mechanically produced sound and its application on furniture. The acoustic sounds are triggered by mechanical movement through human interaction with the pieces. The furniture make sound when used. The added medium alters the way we use and interact with the pieces, giving mundane furniture items a new dimension and purpose.
